I'm Out of Style

I visited my dentist's office yesterday as I had broken a tooth. What I noticed, besides the great care I received, was the length of the scrubs that the 2 assistants were wearing--all bunched up around the ankles like I see many people (George Strait included) wearing. I will call this look "unhemmed." My first thought was that these were busy woman and didn't have time to hem their pants. Then I thought it was a generational thing. Then I thought, why bother, no one looks at your feet. Then I thought, well, I did!
So, if it's a fashion statement of unhemmed scrubs, what does it mean? Is it only a statement in the dental office? It's been quite some time since I visited my general practitioner and her assistant, but I remember they wore scrubs that were hemmed or at least what I judged to be an appropriate length. Are dental office staff busier than medical office staff and therefore don't have time to hem their scrubs?
I have also seen office staff with unhemmed pants legs and these included both men and women.
The major difference that I notice about workers is that it is usually the younger workers who wear the unhemmed pants. I guess people of my generation (Baby Boomers) grew up with the idea of only wearing correctly hemmed pants. Even today, I would never think of going out of the house with unhemmed pants. Even my jeans are hemmed--I don't care what George wears!
So, I am still back to my original question: is it a fashion statement? Is it a generational thing? Is it laziness? Or is it "I just don't care"?
